A tropical or subtropical storm is a type of cyclone which occurs when a tropical or subtropical depression intensifies under favorable conditions. The cyclone can have winds between 39 and 73 miles per hour (62 and 119 km/h or 34 to 63 kt). An example of a tropical/subtropical storm is Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. It caused severe flooding damage in Texas and a couple of other regions in the United States.
