A tropical or subtropical depression is a tropical or subtropical cyclone with winds less than 39 mph (62 km/h or 33 kt). It is the weakest category on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. These cyclones form when a tropical wave intensifies. An example of a tropical depression was Tropical Depression Eleven-E in 2010. It caused considerable damage in the southwestern area of Mexico.
