Super Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby) 2014 Cat5

Hypercane Phillip just before gaining hypercane status.

Hypercane Phillip was the first hypercane recorded in the Atlantic basin. Packing winds of 505 mph at peak, Phillip was the first storm to gain this classification. Phillip formed over waters of 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48,8 degrees Celsius) in a wind shear-free environment, which allowed the storm to gain hypercane status. Phillip did not directly affect land, though, as it turned northward. However, the storm was surprisingly retired due to its feat of reaching hypercane status. Phillip formed on September 24, 2183 in the East Atlantic and then turned northward on September 26, which allowed it to become a hypercane.
