Name Retirement[]

In the spring of 2098, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) retired the names Emerald, Herb, Isa, Jake, Norman, Opal, and Tyra. They were replaced with Elle, Hunter, Ivana, Jasper, Nate*, Orson, and Teresa, respectively. Upon being retired, Opal was the second name to be retired twice in Atlantic naming history (after Gloria in 2091), and for the first time ever, three consecutive names (Herb, Isa, and Jake) were retired from a single naming list. The number of retired names, seven (7), is the second most retired after any season, after the 2079 season.

*= The name Nate was later changed to Nikhil during the 2103 season because it is currently being used on a different naming list.
